Today - and in the future: Brave new working world? The pandemic has brought about changes here: office alternatives such as home office or coworking are (necessarily) gaining in popularity, and companies are also granting their employees more flexibility.

The office routine as we know it is being replaced by new ways of working. One of these is “coworking” – a kind of collaboration between different companies under one roof.

Coworking means “working together” and stands for a new form of work in which the self-employed, start-ups and creative people, but also increasingly larger companies, can work independently but also simultaneously together in one place – the space. For this purpose, ScandicHotels have established a new coworking concept at their approximately 270 locations in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Poland and Germany. It is intended to offer guests more flexibility and independence, away from the actual workplace in the office. For 19 euros per day, 79 euros per week or 199 euros per month, the hotel group now offers its customers “comfortable seating, free Wi-Fi, drinks and access to quiet areas and a variety of other business services,” according to a company statement. Private workspaces in hotel rooms are also available upon request, it added.

Mixture of café atmosphere and open-plan office

“Modern work solutions are playing an increasingly important role in today’s working world. We observe a growing demand among our guests and business customers for workspaces close to home or on the road.” Says Jens Mathiesen, President & CEO of Scandic Hotels on the new coworking concept. With 270 hotels in six countries, it was possible to respond quickly to the demand and offer flexible, inspiring as well as cost-saving workspaces. All offers, of course, under the current legal provisions for COVID-19 prevention.

Sharing may also cost something

Car sharing, shopping networks, coworking spaces, co-housing or e-scooters: sharing is the new having – only without ownership. In recent years in particular, promising new business models and concepts have emerged in the sharing economy that are intended to make life easier or more pleasant for others by doing without. The sharing economy is not primarily about doing without by giving things away. It is about saving resources by using them more efficiently together with others, for example through car sharing. All in all, it has the potential to change the world to a greater or lesser extent.
