The Flaminia cannot be compared with the Lancias from the Fiat era. The workmanship was just as elaborate as in contemporary Maserati, Ferrari or Jaguar. The second variant offered between spring 1959 and mid-1967 was built by the Carrozzeria Touring, recognizable by the designation GT (=Gran Turismo). The shape is based on that of the Maserati 3500 GT. In principle this car, just like the PF-Coupé, has the technical components of the sedan. The Superleggera construction, typical for Touring, a body with an aluminium-clad tubular steel frame, ensured a 200 kg lower weight. The kerb weight of the Touring Coupé was thus only 1337 kg. Due to the shortened wheelbase to 2520 mm and the reduced frontal area, driving performance and roadholding improved. For those times the GTL was not a cheap car with at least 29,850 DM. A leather upholstery cost again DM 510 extra.
In Italy, the Lancia was considered the Ferrari of the middle class.
The car was constantly developed further. Just as with the Pininfarina Coupé, the Touring benefited from the further development of the engines. The first series (Type 824) was first available with a carburettor and 87 kW (119 hp), the second series (Type 826) was equipped with the 2.8-litre engine with 110 kW (150 hp) from autumn 1963. Only a few examples of the Flaminia Touring were built. Nevertheless, a LanciaFlaminiaGTL 3C2.8 Touring is often to be found at classic car events, yet: Really good cars are rare here.
