
The wild Atlantic coast with its contrasts attracts more and more Parisians from the metropolis towards Bordeaux. Accordingly, the region is flourishing: companies are settling down, restaurants and small hotels are opening all over the Basque coast. According to a new study, 56 percent of high-earning Parisians would like to move to Bordeaux, just under a two-hour drive from the coastal city of Biarritz.

Until the middle of the 19th century, the small coastal town was just a fishing village. It was not until 1854, when Empress Eugénie, born in Spain and wife of Napoleon III, came to Biarritz that the metamorphosis of the village into a seaside resort began. The emperor had a residence built for his wife, the couple spent their summers there from now on.

Biarritz experienced its heyday in the golden 1920s, when Biarritz was considered one of the capitals of the Charleston. In the 60s, the almost 100-year history of Biarritz as a seaside resort of the rich and beautiful ended at first.

Among other things, a depraved Art Nouveau parking garage in a prime location between the beach and the lighthouse remained. In 2018, the building was revived as a boutique hotel with pool and 27 lovingly furnished rooms and suites. Le Garage interprets the glamour of the heyday for the 21st century.
