There is probably no other hotel as close to the beach as the new "1884 Norderney" on the protective dune on the west beach. The lovingly designed boutique hotel is located in the historic Villa Mathilde.

Even from the ferry, the elegant 20-room house appears in the characteristic seaside resort style of the Gründerzeit. The sound of the waves and a sea view are included in almost all rooms, and a large sun terrace and spa round off the experience at “1884 Norderney”. The hotel is also home to the new restaurant “Müllers auf Norderney” by star chef Nelson Müller. It offers varied cuisine in front of a dreamlike North Sea backdrop.

The hosts: hotel specialists Mareike Kleimann and Klaus Wanke

The Viennese and the Norderney native worked in hotels all over Europe until they found their way back to Norderney in 2016. “I already walked past the villa as a child and it fascinated me. I wanted to work here one day,” says Mareike Kleimann. This childhood dream has now come true. The house is run by hotel expert Anabel Malcher together with owners Daniela and John Henrik Landwehr.

Eclectic style characterizes the modern interior of the historic spa villa

Kissed by the sunlight and the breeze of the sea: The twenty rooms and suites are luxuriously appointed with lavish details. The modern interior of the spa architecture villa from 1884 – hence the name of the hotel – is characterized by the soft colors of the sea and the dune landscape with a few skillfully placed splashes of color. The focus is always on maximum comfort for guests and an unobstructed view of the waves. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide a breathtaking view and plenty of light, custom-made furniture creates ample storage space and room for cozy sitting niches and sofa corners next to the cozy beds by Royfort. Nearly all rooms have newly set, spacious balconies, most with ocean views. The size of the rooms and suites varies from 26 to 71 square meters. Each room has its own unique character: unplastered brick walls and thick leather, fine tweed combined with elegant silk wallpaper, or retro charm with bathrooms in candy pink. Each room features the latest Samsung smart TVs, air conditioning, illuminated closets, a beach bag with extra towels, a minibar with premium wines, among other things, a Nespresso coffee machine, plenty of storage space in the bathroom, cozy bathrobes and bathroom products from DALUMA. The result is an eclectic mix of yesterday and tomorrow, of modern design and centuries-old spa architecture combined to create a uniquely light beachside lifestyle.

Heart and feel-good place for all: The chat room

Whether for a cup of tea in front of the fireplace after a long walk on the beach, for a good book in the light-flooded winter garden, for a meeting with friends at the cozy captain’s table, for a small or large snack in the sofa corner – the Plauderei on the ground floor is the living room of 1884 Norderney. A place to arrive, chat and relax, alone or in company. The Plauderei is also home to the hotel’s own store, where guests can take a piece of 1884 Norderney home with them – whether house wine, a cookbook by Nelson Müller or a bathrobe.

Sauna and sea air in the 120 square meter spa

Those who want to deepen the natural relaxation program of the island will find absolute tranquility in the spa, which is open all year round. Here you will find a Finnish sauna and a bio-sauna, two relaxation rooms with loungers and drinks, as well as a small outdoor area for fresh sea air after a sauna session.

Culinary indulgence that makes you happy: “Müllers on Norderney

The “Müllers auf Norderney” by celebrity chef Nelson Müller stands for a variety of dishes: Brasserie classics such as tartar, bouillabaisse and street food such as burgers and currywurst are on the menu, as are Wiener schnitzel and rump steak with Café de Paris butter. In addition, caviar, oysters, crabs and daily fresh fish provide the highest level of enjoyment. Vegetarians and vegans are not neglected either and can be pampered. The restaurant offers a well-stocked wine list to accompany the dishes.
