In St. Moritz, all signs point to winter. Event classics and popular activities are joined by new highlights. The 2022/23 winter season will be officially opened on the weekend of 9-10 December 2022 with ski races and open-air concerts with international music acts.

With fresh ideas and impulses, the new generation in St. Moritz is ensuring that the Alpine town continues to develop and expand its offerings.

Two sporting anniversaries and the return of an icon

After extensive renovation work, the legendary Scala cinema will open its doors at Via Maistra 29 in the 2022/23 winter season and show blockbusters, classics and art house works. A special place in the winter programme is occupied by the Saint Moritz Bobsleigh Club, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary. Also 125 years ago, the Jackson Cup was held in St. Moritz for the first time. This marks the first important curling tournament of the St. Moritz Curling Club, which was founded in 1894 and is considered the oldest curling club in Europe.

The Rebirth of la Margna

The Grand Hotels in St. Moritz are joined this winter by another exclusive accommodation, the Grace La Margna Hotel. The opening marks the rebirth of La Margna, an Art Nouveau hotel from the early 20th century. The stylish lifestyle and boutique hotel at Via Serlas 5 will be open 365 days a year – the first five-star hotel in the region. A new gastronomic experience can be found in the Corviglia ski area from this winter season: an offshoot of the Italian fine fish restaurant chain Langosteria is moving into the former mountain restaurant CheCha.

Unique events in a special setting

As usual, the St. Moritz calendar of events is full to bursting over the winter months: St. Moritz will move into the focus of the sports world with the FIS Para Ski World Cup (8 to 11 December 2022), the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Women (16 to 18 December 2022) and the IBSF Bobsleigh, Skeleton & Para Sport World Championships (22 January to 5 February 2023). Activities, attractions and food stalls will once again play on the frozen lakes in the immediate vicinity: the Ice Skating Lej da Staz outdoor event series on the Lej da Staz will run from 12 December 2022 to 15 January 2023, while Amusements on the Lake will return to Lake St. Moritz from mid-January to mid-February 2023. Also on the frozen Lake St. Moritz, the two prestigious mega-events Snow Polo World Cup (27 to 29 January 2023) and White Turf (5, 12 and 19 February 2023) will present action-packed equestrian sports in a unique setting, and the Snow Golf Days (8 to 10 February 2023) will also take place on the lake.

Traditional events such as the Gourmet Festival (20 to 28 January 2023), the world’s only winter classic car show The ICE St. Moritz – International Concours of Elegance (24 to 25 February 2023) and the alpine art hiking fair NOMAD St. Moritz (23 to 26 February 2023) attract gourmets, collectors and artists from all over to St. Moritz every year. At the end of the winter season, two big parties are on the programme: After its successful premiere in 2022, the SunIce Festival (30 March to 2 April 2023) returns with world-renowned DJs from the techno and EDM scene, while the iconic Surfover event at the Alpina Hut at 2,550 m. a.s.l. on 8 April 2023 focuses on surf skills, creativity and 90s sound.
