Paul Signac was the first artist to discover the charm of Saint-Tropez in 1892. He bought the villa "La Hune", where he was visited by George Seurat, Pierre Bonnard and Henri Matisse, who painted his masterpiece "Luxe, Calme et Volupté" there in the summer of 1904.

The painting became an icon of art and the village center of the avant-garde. The harbor painted a hundred times, the exploding colors of the evening sky and the golden light on the sea popular motif. A paradise like Tahiti for Paul Gauguin or Arles for Vincent van Gogh.

Art mediator and Sixt customer Dr. Hans-Joachim Petersen, photographer Christof Sage and editor-in-chief Joachim Fischer have arranged to meet the director of the Althoff Hotel, Robert van Straaten and the important artist Stefan Szczesny on the terrace of the Villa Belrose. Szczesny has lived in Saint-Tropez for 20 years. “From here,” says Szczesny, “the impulses of the avant-garde have emanated. Picasso was in Cannes, Jean Cocteau in Menton, Le Corbusier in Roquebrune, Francis Picabia in Mougins, Max Beckmann in Monaco. Along with New York and Paris, the Côte d’Azur was a center of art.” In his studio on the peninsula, very close to the Chateau de la Moutte where Franz Liszt had lived, his work is created, capturing the bright colours and graceful motifs of the Midi in paintings, reliefs, sculptures, drawings, photographs and ceramics: Sailing ships, female silhouettes, palm trees, the sea, the sun, flowers and fruits. The light, the colours and the warmth have brought him here, now he has created his own artist’s paradise of art and life.

In Saint-Tropez, we followed in the footsteps of the artists.

In fact, Saint-Tropez is a rather crazy village in which his art seems to fit perfectly. High spirits, joie de vivre, calm and equilibrium, muse and melancholy, beauty and elegance are in the air. Our eyes wander over the bay: “The most beautiful view over the bay of Saint-Tropez is from the terrace of Villa Belrose. Every day a different light. In the evening, the sky is pink, the sea shines golden,” says the artist, beaming with happiness. The artist, who also artistically designs public buildings and villas, strives for a total work of art and architecture and dreams of a chapel that he would like to artistically design.

Stefan Szczesny, former brand ambassador for the car manufacturer Jaguar, is fascinated by the possibility of renting a Jaguar F-Type Coupé from Sixt so easily. Sixt has included the sports car in its fleet so that you can rent this dynamic car and have fun with it. Because that is the real purpose of this top model: absolute driving pleasure through absolute power.
