It was probably the best decision to stop writing his songs for other artists and record them himself. This is how Bryan Adams became one of Canada's most successful artists.

Normally, we can’t condone dropping out of school so early to try your hand at being an artist. But in the case of Bryan Adams we can make an exception. He dropped out of high school at the age of 15 and has been hitting the clubs in Vancouver, sometimes as a backup singer, sometimes as a guitarist. While the young musician was making his way from gig to gig, he met Jim Vallance one day in a record store, who had been drumming in a band until then, but wanted to quit. In retrospect, you can look at it either way, but in any case, the chance meeting developed into a friendship that was to lead to great hits. Adams and Vallance quickly became a great songwriting duo, writing hits for bands such as Bachman Turner Overdrive, Bonnie Tyler and KISS. At some point they kept the best numbers for themselves and started recording demos, which they sent to all kinds of record labels. And then in 1979 came the record deal! Bryan Adams, the first LP was released in 1980. Even though this was not a big success, the still young musician had tasted blood and followed up with “You Want It, You Got It” only one year later: Finally, there was the longed-for breakthrough!

Learned from star photographer Herb Ritts

Bryan Adams began to work intensively with photography at the end of the nineties. The musician had returned to his London home from a four-year world tour and apprenticed with star photographer Herb Ritts (1952-2002). He also learned cool style from the famed fashion photographer. And now, Canadian musician Bryan Adams has been signed on as the photographer for the 2022 Pirelli “The Call” calendar. But the star uses his popularity not only to get close to other stars, but also to make a political statement: his cycle “Wounded – The Legacy of War” shows portraits of young British servicemen and women who had returned home from Iraq or Afghanistan seriously injured.
