Under the title "Porsche Unseen", Porsche recently anchored previously secret design studies in our consciousness. For GO SIXT, we have compiled our Unseen favourites in a series.

Have you ever heard of the Porsche 904 Living Legend? No? Neither have we! Until recently. Now, all of a sudden, Porsche has officially shown the public the homage to the 1963 904 Carrera GTS that never went into production. The Porsche 904 Living Legend is a study and over seven years old. Or should we say young, as fresh and new as the “Unseen” model now showed itself to be? The design exercise was produced in 2013, exactly 50 years after the premiere of the original 904, of which there were 116 examples.

Many still consider it the most beautiful Porsche of all time.

The 904 Living Legend with a monocoque carbon chassis in the style of the VW XL1 would have been the perfect opportunity to build a small and minimalist sports car. The Porsche design team experimented with various body shapes and ultimately created a unique piece that was similarly proportioned and sized to the 904. A true mid-engine sports car that would have brought the purist design idea of the Carrera GTS from 1963 into the present with its crouched cockpit and elegantly flared wheel arches.

Like all the other concept cars in the “Unseen” series, the Porsche 904 Living Legend is just an idea. And yet such experimental visions are essential for Porsche, according to the sports car manufacturer. They help to “explore spaces of possibility and question familiar thought patterns and conventions. This is the only way the brand can continue to develop.

TIP FROM THE GO SIXT EDITORIAL TEAM:

Spectacular from the outside and high performance on the inside! The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart Zuffenhausen is always worth a visit. Equally worth a visit is the Hans-Peter Porsche Dream Factory: a destination for excursions, an adventure museum, a total work of art. Tin toys, model trains, sports cars – for the whole family.
