Canadian singer Bryan Adams has staged some of the biggest artists from the world of music for the 2022 Pirelli Calendar at various locations on the theme of “On The Road” – mainly in Los Angeles, California. Included are Oscar winners Cher and Jennifer Hudson, further Rita Ora, Elon Musk girlfriend Grimes, Normani, St. Vincent and Kali Uchis, who were photographed on the city streets, at the Palace Theatre as well as at the Chateau Marmont Hotel. Rapper Saweetie, on the other hand, was photographed by Bryan Adams at the La Scalinatella Hotel on the Italian island of Capri. Also there, the “Godfather of Punk” Iggy Pop and Bohan Phoenix. It turned out beautiful, somehow sexy again, the light of the set ethereal as well as aesthetic. Pirelli, the Italian “Playboy” variety, has adapted to the times. Like other companies, they’ve realized that the image they project onto the Millennial and Z generations needs to be brought in line with major social movements and calls for a new representation. And so all the stars give themselves like you wouldn’t expect – no bare skin is shown. Only Iggy Popp goes among the narcissists. He shows his trained upper body.
Adams’ calendar pictures speak an unmistakable language
For the rock singer and photographer, singer Cher poses in a locker room, rapper Saweetie holds her passport up to the camera, and singer Rita Ora lolls on a car seat. Adam stages them all as “on the road,” showing their lives as a journey that washes them across roads from one hotel to the next, waiting here and there, backstage, onstage, in the nameless hinterlands. His choice of locations is emblematic of American pop and rock history, the places exquisite, super-expensive and exquisite. And yes, whoever photographs the Pirelli calendar has the best team to do it with and a budget of at least two million euros. In comparison, other campaigns are much, much more expensive.
Bryan Adams’ talents are far-reaching
Bryan Adams, the Canadian artist, discovered his passion for photography in the late 1990s alongside his career as a rock star. And so, portraits taken by Bryan Adams already grace the pages of magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, GQ and Harper’s Bazaar as well as his own art magazine Zoo. His chosen subjects include Sir Mick Jagger, John Boyega, Amy Winehouse, Naomi Campbell and many more, including statesmen and even the Queen, whom he photographed on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee in 2002. On the other side is musician Bryan Adams, who has achieved number one status in over 40 countries in the past four decades. For this he received three Oscar and five Golden Globe nominations as well as a Grammy Award.

Pirelli “The Cal” comeback after one year break
The Pirelli calendar, also called “The Cal”, has been published since 1964 and is considered a collector’s item. Pirelli hires great photographers year after year: Helmut Newton, Karl Lagerfeld, Peter Lindbergh or Annie Leibovitz have already stood behind the camera for the calendar. In 2021, there was no new Pirelli calendar due to the Corona pandemic. Instead, the tire manufacturer donated 100,000 euros for virus research.
Not yet published – and already out of print
Year after year, the Pirelli calendar is eagerly awaited. It has become a highly traded collector’s item and is given to the most important business partners. Among the recipients are Buckingham Palace and the Prince of Monaco. The calendar for 2022 will be published in November 2021 and is already highly sought after.
