Here, the big city meets the big heart. Like the city itself, which is calm and a little rough around the edges on the outside, it reveals its true charm and Berlin chic on the inside, which is immediately apparent in the seven-storey lobby. The retro-style spaces of the lobby, reception, workspace, bar and TV lounge blend together seamlessly. And above it all, like a patron saint, sits the name of the establishment, the Grand Elector, in the form of an XXL sculpture.
The rooms are intelligently designed, functional and comfortable, so you feel right at home. Whether you’re staying in a clearly structured business room or a spacious executive apartment, comfort is combined with well-thought-out amenities, including welcome drinks in the minibar, Meissen tiles in the bathrooms and a feature that the hotel group was the first to introduce in Germany more than 40 years ago: apartments with hotel services, i.e. fully equipped hotel rooms and apartments, which are particularly practical and pleasant when travelling with children, on a long business trip to the city, or if you simply don’t want to go to a restaurant or out on the town every morning or evening.
The 15 allergy-friendly rooms, specially designed for guests with allergies or increased sensitivity to environmental pollution, are particularly clever. Air filtered to remove pollen, blinds instead of curtains, hypoallergenic cleaning products instead of a cocktail of fragrances, anti-allergy bed linen instead of upholstery fabrics: a little refuge where you can breathe deeply. And every morning, a breakfast tailored to your needs and any food intolerances awaits you.
The Living Hotel thus manages to combine modern urban proximity with genuine moments of well-being, without frills, but with a smile in the details.
Directly opposite, also very conveniently located on Friedrichstraße, is the Living Hotel Berlin Mitte. This establishment is the little brother of the Großer Kurfürst, but it plays a particularly important role once a year. Since 2023, the hotel has been transformed into a “training hotel” for six weeks every autumn.

As part of this flagship project, 14 apprentices from the hotel chain have the opportunity, from their second year of apprenticeship onwards, to run the Living Hotel Berlin Mitte independently for six weeks and discover the daily routine of a hotel from a new perspective during their training. The third edition of the programme for hotel apprentices will begin in October. After the first two years, it is already clear how much the apprentices have returned to their original establishments with new knowledge and confidence. This is a living example of how committed Living Hotels is to promoting young talent and personalities.
The philosophy behind Living Hotels is based on a clear promise: hotels should not just be places to spend the night, but also living spaces where you feel at home, whether for a short stay or a longer period. This includes a warm welcome, personalised service and a concept that emphasises individuality and authenticity. Living Hotels sees itself as a host that creates closeness – with its guests, with the cities and with the people who live and work there.
Thus, the Living Hotel Großer Kurfürst and the Living Hotel Berlin Mitte embody the same philosophy in different ways: they represent a certain Berlin lifestyle, a coexistence that goes beyond the ordinary, and a vision of hospitality that brings people together.
