Art around the lake: Thirty huge, colourful steel and shadow sculptures and glass steles by artist Stefan Szczesny will enter into a dialogue with the spectacular natural backdrop of the lake and the surrounding mountains through a play of light and shadow, subtle forms and transparencies.
The colourful steel sculptures, which have already been exhibited worldwide in New York, Miami, London, Paris, St. Barth and St. Tropez, where the artist has lived since 2000, are coming together again for the first time for the exhibition at Tegernsee and will be placed in prominent locations throughout the Tegernsee valley.
The highlight is the 6.5 metre high sculpture “Tree of Life”, which was created in 2014 on the occasion of the retrospective “Szczesny: Metamorphoses Méditerranéennes”. The “Tree of Life” is a vision of earthly paradise and an ode to the happiness of life that is close to artist Stefan Szczesny’s heart. The scenery depicts figures moving within the structure of the tree. The reflections of the mirror-polished figures enable the “Tree of Life” to capture the light and blend harmoniously into its surroundings through the interplay of light and transparency. The sculpture was exhibited at Villa Domergue in summer 2015, then at the Citadel of Saint-Tropez during the exhibition “Szczesny: Sculptures 2005-2017” and in 2022 on the forecourt of Grimaud Town Hall. This masterpiece by Szczesny came to Lake Tegernsee thanks to the support of the Cosmo Art & Science Foundation.
In addition to these Szczesny sculptures, a major Szczesny retrospective of paintings, ceramics and sculptures will be shown at the RPN Fine Arts gallery in Rottach-Egern in June & July 2024.
