The painter Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) is regarded as the creator of strict geometric compositions with black and white lines and colour fields in red, blue or yellow.

Mondrian was one of the most important artists of the avantgarde movement, one of the most ingenious pioneers of abstract art. The exhibition in Düsseldorf concentrates on Mondrian’s early work and artistic development up to Constructivism.
