“Music is one thing above all: pure emotion,” says jazz trumpeter Till Brönner. And his definition of bad music, follows on from that. It is “music that obviously follows trends or is a bad copy of the original – I always get blunt teeth. Fortunately, the self-confident musician not only proves his bite and originality with his own albums, but also with his personal playlist. And although he says he listens to very different genres, he cannot deny his home in jazz. His favourites? Bringing original works penned by great musicians to our ears. Among them: Al Jarreau, Tony Bennett and Chet Baker. The only question that remains is how Brönner is actually listening to Music.

“The theory part in music is very difficult for me to block out. At some point I realised that and started to free myself internally from all the things I’m able to hear, so that I really only check music for its effect,” he says. Or to sum it up briefly: he only listens to the music – and we just go along with that.

Or to sum it up briefly: he only listens to the music – and we just go along with that.
